Montespertoli, 29th July 2014

On Friday 1st August, Prima Materia begins another chapter of M&R in Lebanon, with a 3 week visit, involving a team of 12 members.

Deborah Parker (project coordinator) will lead the Music Therapy team with professional and volunteer support, to continue training and clinical supervision in Assumoud’s 5 Mental Health Clinics situated in, or close to, refugee camps throughout Lebanon.

Rebecca Brown will coordinate the Community Music programme, together with Prima Materia staff members, training students and volunteers, working in Burj Al Shemali camp in Southern Lebanon, and Beddawi camp in the North. The program will offer music workshops for some 70 children and teenagers, and community music teachers’ training for some of the older Palestinian students.

Italian authorities allowing, 2 of these students will be in Montespertoli this Autumn to continue their training in the Prima Materia Arts Centre.

The team’s luggage is made up mostly of large packs of string, wind, brass and percussion instruments to donate to Assumoud, thanks to a larger number of sponsors and donors in Italy who have responded to our instrument appeal. Special thanks to Controradio, Sorgentone and Mecatti violin makers, Onerati wind instruments, all Florence based, and our many, generous, private donors.
