A Solidarity Musical Crossing Across the Shores of the Mediterranean

The Music & Resilience project in Lebanon, alongside the Palestinian population living in the local refugee camps, has now reached its fifteenth year of activity. During all these years, we have always moved from Italy to reach our colleagues and friends in the Lebanese refugee camps, often bringing with us young Italian musicians so that they could study and perform together with their Palestinian peers. We have tried a few times to do the opposite: welcome some of our Palestinian friends to Italy, but for them it is not at all easy to move, get visas, cross borders.

But music knows no borders! It crosses boundaries, brings people together, creates connections, and builds bridges between different cultures. So this year we are trying again!

From this belief comes a unique project: a Solidarity Musical Crossing that will bring young Italian musicians together with Palestinian peers from refugee camps in Lebanon, in a journey of learning, cultural exchange, and shared artistic creation.

During the summer, 10 young Italian musicians will participate free of charge in a non-formal education program alongside 5 young Palestinian musicians who, as peer educators, will share their musical heritage, their stories, and their experiences of resilience. Together, they will create an original concert born from the meeting of different traditions, languages, and sensitivities: a true musical crossing that portrays the Mediterranean as a space of dialogue, solidarity, and freedom.

But this project is not only about the participants. The families hosting the young Palestinians will become key actors in a profound experience of human and cultural exchange. Local communities will be engaged through concerts, public meetings, and open events where participants can share and reflect on their experiences, creating opportunities for mutual understanding and participation.

We have started a crowdfunding to cover for the travel expenses (insurance, airfare, and artistic activities) as well as hospitality costs (food and transportation). Supporting this campaign means investing in the power of music as a universal language, capable of transforming differences into encounters and building relationships that endure over time.

Help us set this flotilla of sounds, stories, and hopes on its journey! Every contribution can make a difference.
