Music & Resilience spoke at the conference La musica, la guerra, la pace (‘music, war, peace’) held in Florence on Saturday, 22nd November, which featured
orchestras and cultural organisations committed to using music as a tool for bringing people together, promoting coexistence, peace and international solidarity.
Alberto presented the project, talking about the community approach to music as a means of cultural and psychosocial support for marginalised and deprived communities, with particular reference to our experiences with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and displaced people in Ukraine.
It was an opportunity for both sharing and learning, which allowed us to understand how the country’s music scene is responding to the many needs of this time in history. A cultural and excellence-based approach prevails, rooted in orchestral contexts, but there are also projects closer to our approach based on involved, grassroots support. It is very important to share our responses to common problems and to be aware of each other’s existence!
